Boston Holiday Events That Make Our Neighborhoods Shine

by Melanie Gundersheim

As December rolls in, Boston transforms into a winter wonderland — and there are so many festive events lighting up the city this season. Here are a few you and your family definitely don’t want to miss:

  • Boston Common Tree Lighting — On Thursday, December 4, 2025, the city will light its official holiday tree (a white spruce from Nova Scotia) at Boston Common. The tree lighting at around 7:55 p.m. will be followed by lights across the Common and Public Garden.

  • Light Up Seaport & Snowport Holiday Market — Over at the Seaport district, expect twinkling lights, a giant holiday tree, live music, local vendors, cozy food and drink stalls, and a festive holiday atmosphere perfect for an evening stroll or family outing.

  • Neighborhood Light Walks — Commonwealth Avenue Mall, Christopher Columbus Park (North End waterfront), and historic streets of downtown Boston all get decked out in seasonal lights and decorations. Walking through these neighborhoods at night feels like stepping into a holiday postcard.

  • Holiday Shows, Markets & Ice Skating — Beyond lights and tree ceremonies, Boston offers lovely seasonal touches like holiday markets, festive concerts, holiday-themed performances (think concerts, theater, or family‑friendly shows), and even open‑air ice skating, giving everyone from kids to grandparents a chance to soak up the cheer.

Whether you live here or are visiting, these celebrations remind us how community, light, and holiday spirit can transform familiar neighborhoods into magical gathering places.

If you’re a homeowner in Boston or thinking of making a move — there has never been a better time. As a real‑estate professional who also cares about community vibes, I’d love to help you find a home in a neighborhood that’ll sparkle with holiday energy just like this.
